Zihuatanejo is an inspiring place, a perfect retreat for artists and musicians.

The Zihuatanejo International Guitar Festival celebrated its 16th annual edition on March 2 to 9, 2019. It was an incredible musical encounter between local and Mexican artists from all over the country, as well as from Colombia, Cuba, the United States and Canada.

Heydi Nygard is the chief of this non-profit organization and coordinates more than 40 volunteers who set up the activities required to carry it out and make it the great festival it has become. The Zihua International Guitar Festival has become one of the most important local events.

The goal is to bring first class music to promote cultural awareness and create an important event for the pleasure of visitors. It is a non-profit organization, and monies raised are designated to support local groups or organizations that promote free music education. This year children received new instruments to continue promoting art.

The International Guitar Festival is also a big party where international artists present their music to new audiences and share ideas with other musicians. The public is in touch with them at the "after hours" each night. All, musicians, organizers and volunteers grow a fraternal community through the days of the Festival.

Big concerts happen daily at different spots and on Zihuatanejo's main beach, as well as on a boat and in clubs and restaurants at night. You can be part of this as a volunteer during your stay or supporting the shows.
