That's right, from October 27-29 in Zihuatanejo the 5th edition of this international pool Apnea competition will take place, but you will wonder what this sport consists of?

Apnea, freediving, is an extreme sport, which is based on the voluntary suspension of breathing and in this next international competition it will be carried out in various modalities which are: Static, dynamic without fins, dynamic with bi-fins and dynamic. with monofin.

This competition was born in Zihuatanejo by the International Apnea Development Association in which Pako Ibarra is a Judge. This extreme sport is relatively new and began in Mexico in 2018 in the port of Veracruz; Nowadays, it is growing and attracting more athletes, so much so that in recent years competitions have already been held in Playa del Carmen, Mérida, CDMX and more cities.

The ZANKA OPEN attracts athletes from different parts of the world who travel to compete and test their endurance; Records have been set, such as Pablo Martí's 7 minutes in static apnea. In 2022, 26 competitors participated and an increase is expected in 2023.

This sport is attracting more and more people who like diving or extreme sports; Furthermore, the impact for Zihuatanejo as a tourist destination is important due to international recognition as well as the diversification of Zihuatanejo’s activities.

During the ZANKA OPEN entry is free for the public and it takes place in the Olympic pool of the Zihuatanejo sports unit.
